Frequently Asked Questions

Are these mind tools a substitute for therapy?

No — they are evidence-informed self-help techniques (DBT-derived urge surfing, standard breathing patterns), not a substitute for professional mental health care.

Is anything I do with these tools recorded or stored?

No — both tools run entirely on your device and nothing about a session is recorded off it.

What is emotion surfing?

Also called urge surfing — a DBT/ACT technique developed by psychologist Alan Marlatt. Instead of reacting to a strong emotion or urge, you observe it like a wave for about 90 seconds, letting it rise, peak, and fall without acting on it.

Which breathing pattern helps most with sudden panic?

Physiological Sigh — a double inhale followed by one long exhale, based on a 2023 Stanford study — is built for immediate calm in a single breath cycle. 4-7-8 and Extended Exhale are aimed more at sleep.
