What Are UPI Transaction Limits?

NPCI (the National Payments Corporation of India, which runs the UPI network) sets a default ceiling of ₹1,00,000 per day for person-to-person UPI transfers. Certain NPCI-notified categories — credit card bill payments, tax payments, insurance premiums, and registered/verified merchant categories — can go up to 5,00,000 per day. A newly added payee or a new device is capped at 5,000 for the first 24 hours — an NPCI-mandated fraud control, the same for every app.

The August 2025 Balance-Check Rule

Since 2025-08-01, NPCI caps "Check Balance" requests at 50 per app per customer per day — a technical load control on the Check Balance API, unrelated to how much money you can send. It does not reduce any of the payment limits above.
